STREET CONTEXT AND STUDY SKETCH

BRIEF

One of the most important details when it comes to the conservation and preservation of a traditional street, in relation to the impact of modernity and urbanism is the place identity of heritage the street. From a series of both, traditional and cultural streets, we were assigned with the task of conducting a site study to understand the different factors and aspects of a specific street in relation to the impacts of urbanism.

OUTCOME

Resulted in a compilation of sketches and a reflective summary of Jalan Petaling and the changes it has seen in terms of modernist changes through the course of time.

REFLECTION

Rapid urbanization and modernization has resulted in several appropriate and inappropriate cultural repositions among our social community. The analysis and study of place identity or genius loci of a traditional street, emphasizes on the significance of preserving the genuine authenticity and the traditional aspects of a street and culture. As such, this project reflected on the importance of consistently maintaining and understanding the authenticity of a culture and way of life amongst urban changes.
