PROJECT 1C
SENIOR SOCIAL HUB
BRIEF
The final project task is to design a senior social hub in response to the community, environment and man-made materiality. The project requires us to utilize complex spatial organization typologies following a clustered layout. With an established understanding of the community needs, we will then create functional and insightful spaces for the USJ 9 community.
OUTCOME
A full set of orthographic drawings, diagrams, spatial visualization renders and a working model to convey the design.
DESIGN PROCESS
CONCEPT
The concept was derived from the given opportunity to give a sense of purpose back to the seniors of the site, while also helping to reactivate the Kebun community of the park. Creating mindful spaces for seniors involved, designing an interactive hub for users of all ages. This meant creating programs to rebuild other demographic gaps, such as the joggers of the park and the seniors, who both share a mutual love for wellness and health. Hence, nutrition workshops were proposed. To help attract the community of USJ 9, a community cooking and market were proposed. These programs, together create meaningful spaces for key demographics, and thus creating an interactive hub within the community.
The ikigai retreat translates to its spaces as balance, transparency and clarity, Therefore the architecture blends indoor and outdoor spaces in it's design.
INTENTION
The purpose is given to the seniors as ikigai is presented to them as collaborative mentorship gardening, in a series of spaces that help strengthen community relations.

SELF REFLECTION
A long journey of 8 weeks and new developments every week. I enjoyed the process of pushing discovery as the project progressed. Staying consistent with my design ultimately helped to create a worthwhile final product. Creating spaces for a community helped push my design thinking, as architecture as a bigger influencer of society.
